    The Meaning Behind Our Mural

Color, geography, ancestry and the journey of Peru: the story behind the pastel mural that welcomes every guest at CHECA in Stockholm.

The CHECA mural with soft pastel shapes in brown, green, blue, pink and orange evoking the landscapes of Peru

At CHECA, color is not decoration.

Color is memory, geography, movement, ancestry, and identity.

Our mural was created with vivid pastel tones inspired by the colors of our ancestors from before the Spanish arrival. These are colors that feel soft but alive, ancient but still present. They belong to a land where the past is never really gone.

In Peru, our ancestors are always present. In the mountains, in the jungle, in the ocean, in the food, in the way we gather, and in the way we understand life. They come from the cultures that lived here before the Spanish arrived, from the Inca, and from Spanish, African and Asian heritage, all the cultures that crossed paths and became part of what Peru is today.

That mixture is not something we hide. It is something we carry.

    Brown, The Andes

The brown shapes represent our Andean mountains. The Andes are strength, altitude, silence, and origin. They are where so much of our history begins. They remind us of the landscapes that shaped our ingredients, our traditions, and our way of seeing the world.

    Light Green, The Upper Jungle

The lighter green is the upper jungle, where coffee and cacao grow, where the air is humid and waterfalls appear everywhere.

It is a place of abundance, freshness, and fertility. It is also where some of the most beautiful ingredients of Peru are born.

    Dark Green, The Amazon

The darker green is the Amazon rainforest. It is dense, powerful, and full of energy.

Under the canopy of the trees, the light almost disappears. You may not always see the wildlife, but they see you. You feel that force around you.

It is nature in its most intense form: alive, hidden, and impossible to control.

    Blue, Water

    The blue is water.

It is our rivers, the Pacific Ocean, and the path that connects worlds. Water is movement. It carries people, stories, ingredients, memories, and dreams.

Pink, The Warmth of Our People

The pink represents the warmth of our people. It is the human side of Peru: generosity, affection, joy, and celebration.

If the mountains are strength, the jungle is abundance, the Amazon is force, and the water is movement, then the pink is the heart.

It is the warmth around the table, the laughter, the music, the conversation, and the way Peruvians welcome others. It also reminds us of the flowers that decorate so many homes, patios, and streets in Peru: simple beauty, full of life, always present.

At CHECA, this color means that beyond the landscapes and the history, Peru is also deeply emotional. It is a place where food is never just food, and where sharing a table is a way of saying: you are welcome here.

Orange, The Sunsets of Northern Peru

And then there is a glimpse of orange.

For us, it represents the countless perfect sunsets in the north of Peru, the place where CHECA really comes from.

It was believed that if you watched the whole sunset from beginning to end, without interrupting your glance from the sun itself, you should make a wish.

I must confess that many of those wishes have come to life.

That is the energy that Peruvians inherently have, and a lot of it comes from the sun: its warmth, its force, its generosity, and its power to make us believe that something beautiful can always begin again.

The Journey, From Peru to the World

But the mural is also about a journey.

It is about crossing the pond, the water from the old world to the new. It is about adventure, discovery, blended cultures, diversity, and the way back, giving what Peru has to the world.

Peru has always been a meeting point. Indigenous roots, Inca memory, Spanish influence, African heritage, Asian immigration, European technique, Amazonian ingredients, Andean traditions, and coastal life.

All of these layers live together. Sometimes in harmony, sometimes in contrast, but always with energy.

CHECA exists in that same space.

We bring Peru to Stockholm, but not as something frozen in time. We bring it as something alive. Something that travels, adapts, grows, and returns with new meaning.

Our mural is a way of saying who we are before you even sit down. It is the Andes, the jungle, the Amazon, the water, the warmth of our people, the northern sunsets, and the journey between continents.

It is also a reminder that our ancestors are still with us, in every color, every ingredient, every gesture, and every story.

It is Peru, in our own colors.

And it is our way of giving what Peru has to the world.
