    Four Years at Åsögatan

CHECA reflects on four years at Åsögatan 176 and on evolving into a warm, colorful and elevated Peruvian food and drink experience in Stockholm.

Checa dining room with long community table and mustard chairs at golden hour.

When we moved into Åsögatan 176 in September 2022, the room already carried a certain warmth. It had the open kitchen, the long bar, the big windows facing the street, the bones of a place where people could gather.

At first, we kept much of that spirit. Then, slowly, we began making it our own.

A mural by the entrance. Mustard yellow chairs. A long community table. A bar shaped around pisco, wine and conversation. A dining room where the food, the drinks, the music and the energy could come together in a way that felt unmistakably CHECA.

Four years later, Åsögatan has become much more than a new address for us. It has become the place where CHECA found its rhythm, its confidence and its voice.

Our idea has always been rooted in genuine Peruvian flavors. But over these years, that idea has evolved. We have become more daring, more precise, and more intentional in the way we cook, serve and tell our story. The food is still deeply connected to Peru, but it is elevated through technique, ingredients and presentation. The drinks are no longer simply something on the side. Pisco, cocktails, wine and Peruvian spirits have become part of the journey.

Today, we see CHECA as an experience: a way to travel through Peru without leaving Stockholm. A bite, a ceviche, a warm dish, a glass of pisco, a bottle of wine, a conversation that lasts longer than expected. Each part of the evening is designed to offer another texture, another flavor, another memory.

Some guests come for a quick pisco and a half portion of ceviche on a Wednesday. Some gather around the community table on a Friday night. Some discover Peruvian wine for the first time. Some come to celebrate birthdays, company dinners, cultural evenings or simply the end of a long week. Little by little, the dining room has become a small piece of Peru on Söder: colorful, warm, genuine, social and full of life.

Four years at Åsögatan feels both very long and very short. So much has changed, and yet the heart remains the same: to share Peru through food, drinks and hospitality in a way that feels personal, generous and alive.

Thank you to every guest who has crossed the threshold, every supplier who has saved us a better lime, every winemaker and producer who has become part of our story, and every team member who has shown up for the quiet prep days and the Saturday rushes.

Here is to four years at Åsögatan, and to the next chapter of CHECA.
